About this tour

Cuban artist and critic Antonio Eligio Fernández (Tonel) most famously described young Cuban artists as bad weeds; in the most positive sense, they sprout, grow and develop in the harshest conditions. This is as true today as it was 30 years ago when this statement was first written. Young Cuban artists have formed a large part of the rich and buzzing Cuban art scene for decades. Whether they are Instituto Superior de Artes graduates, apprentices to other artists, or innovators in their own right, young Cuban artists have caused a stir on the international art scene since the Volumen Uno group in the 80s. Each new generation grows and builds on the last, adopting new mediums, techniques and incorporating contemporary concerns into their works.

Cubartours Young Masters tours takes participants on a whirlwind journey around some of the most exciting galleries exhibiting young, established Cuban artists, as well as welcoming you into the homes and studios of young Cuban artists. We will start with visits to popular artist’s Jose Manuel Mesias and Adonis Ferro’s studios in Old Havana. After lunch at one of Havana’s top, cutting edge restaurants the tour will continue with a visit to Factoría Habana where we will take in the latest exhibition on show. This will then be followed by a small move Vedado to visit the studio of artist Rafael Villares. Villares has been widely exhibited across the Western world, most recently having a solo show in New York. The tour will finish with a visit to the Fundación Ludwig or the Galería Villa Manuela. Sponsored by the Ludwig family, the Foundation was established in the early 90s to support and encourage young Cuban artists.

Be sure not to miss out on a chance to truly submerge yourself into the young Cuban contemporary art scene. It won’t be long before these artists will be on sale in the big auction houses, acquaint yourself with them now!

The tour was incredible -the most enjoyable thing I did in Havana. The artists you guys chose were so interesting and it was nice to see the broad spectrum of art in Cuba. I'm so happy I booked this, all the girls were so friendly and knowledgeable.

Jasmine curated one of the most incredible arts experiences we've had. Anyone who is a genuine art lover and interested in connecting with the source of these works should go on a tour. It is truly an elevated experience--5 stars all around!

The tour was insightful and interesting. We had the rare experience to see works of art up close and personal, as well as the chance to discuss those works with the artists themselves. An experience I never would have had if it were not for this tour.
