Born in Havana, Cuba, and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in 1992, Cirenaica Moreira is one of the artists with the greatest strength in the Cuban art scene since then to the present.
Photography has been the medium through which she has expressed her concerns. In her work are present the problems concerning the human condition, but especially the woman condition. Her speech has always been self-referential in which the image is included as an interpretation resource. The performance, the pose and the disguise, the theatrical arrangement of the elements in her pieces, shows the spectator characters that move in a reality carefully worked scenographically. The theme of gender, many of them through personal, intimate experiences, dialogues with a high sense of aesthetics.
The artist plays fumbling between the cosmos of order and chaos of disorder, the cosmos of perfection and chaos of the imperfect. Cyrenaica gestures and manages to freeze it in a subversive image. It uses the expression that gives the image itself but in the last series has worked with other models. Each of the characters in which it becomes the truth comes to act within themselves, come to put it to use to prove it.Cirenaica has exhibited in Cuba and other countries, and has participated in important collective exhibitions: Havana, United States, Spain, Germany, France, Israel, Brazil and Jamaica among othe countries.
Some of her works can be found in collections such as Art Museum. University of Virginia, United States; Arte Viva Foundation, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Photo Library of Cuba, Havana Cuba; Photo-Fest, Houston, Texas, United States; Lehigh University Art Gallery, Pennsylvania, United States; Throckmorton Fine Art Gallery, New York, USA; Center for Cuban Studies, New York, USA; Aspects Gallery, Barcelona, Spain.Download CV
