The Factoria Habana, restored, funded and directed by Galician born Concha Fontela, was inaugurated in December 2009. The gallery was established upon the premise of being a space for artistic and creative dialogue, and experimentation. It has been used as an area to promote and produce contemporary Cuban art over the past six years. Activities that take place there have included temporary exhibitions, workshops, idea laboratories, conferences, audiovisual presentations, and cultural events organised by the state. The gallery represents a host of established contemporary Cuban artists, including René Francisco and Lázaro Saavedra.
